PTI  DOCTRINAL  STATEMENT
Providence Theological Institute holds to the Protestant Sola's, the Doctrines of Grace (i.e. soteriological Calvinism), New Covenant Theology, and Baptist Ecclesiology. Providence Theological Institute also affirms the 1646 First London Confession of Faith (with appendix by Benjamin Cox) as a concise theological summary with which the institute agrees.
THE PROTESTANT SOLA'S:
(1) Sola Scriptura (Latin: "by Scripture alone"): Scripture (which is the inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God) is the sole authority of faith & practice for the believer (2 Tim. 3:16-17;
Matt. 4:4; 5:17-18; Rom. 15:4; John 17:7; Heb. 4:12; John 10:35; 1 Cor. 4:6).

(2) Sola Fide (Latin: "by faith alone"): believers are justified before God by faith in Christ not by works (
Rom. 3:20-22; 3:23-24; 5:17; Titus 3:5-7; 2 Cor. 5:21; Gal. 2:16; Eph. 2:8-10).

(3) Sola Gratia
(Latin: "by grace alone"): God's grace, that is to say, His unmerited favor (not man's will or effort) alone initiates, secures, & applies salvation to His elect (
Eph. 2:4-5; Rom. 6:14; 2:8-10; Titus 2:11-12; 3:7; 1 Pet. 5:10; Heb. 4:16).

(4) Solo Christo (Latin: "by Christ alone"): salvation is found only in the God-Man Jesus Christ, the sole mediator between God and man (
Acts 4:12; 1 Tim. 2:5; Matt. 1:21; John 3:36; 14:6; Rom. 4:23-25; 1 Cor. 15:3-4).

(5) Soli Deo Gloria (Latin: "to God alone be the glory"): not only God does all things for His own glory but also that man is to glorify God not himself in all that he does (Rom. 11:36; Rev. 4:11; 5:12; 1 Cor. 10:31; Isa. 6:3; Luke 2:14; Heb. 1:1-3).

(6) Solo Evangelio (Latin: "by the Gospel alone"): the Gospel alone is the power of God unto salvation, and it is the duty and privilege of every believer to herald the Gospel in life, word, & deed (
Rom. 1:16-17; 1 Cor. 15:1-4; Gal. 1:6-8; Eph. 1:13; Phil. 1:27; 1 Thess. 1:5; 1 Pet. 4:6; Matt. 24:14; Mark 16:15-16).

(7) Solo Cruce (Latin: "by the cross alone"): salvation is only found in Christ's penal substitutionary death on the cross (
1 Cor. 1:17-18; Eph. 2:15-16; Phil. 2:7-8; Col. 1:19-20; 2:13-14; Heb. 12:2;
1 Pet. 2:24).
THE DOCTRINES OF GRACE (I.E. SOTERIOLOGICAL CALVINISM):
(1) Total Depravity: man (a) is guilty of Adam's first sin, (b) desperately corrupted his entire being in Adam, and (c) is wholly unable to do anything that pleases God (Rom. 3:10-12; 5:12; 8:7-8; 1 Cor. 2:14; 15:21-22; Ps. 51:3; 58:3; Eph. 2:1-3; 4:17-19; Isa. 64:6; Gen. 6:5; Jer. 17:9).

(2) Unconditional Election:
God in eternity past freely chose a specific number of people to become recipients of His saving grace, not because of any foreknown choices or merits but because He was sovereignly pleased to do so (
Eph. 1:3-11; John 6:38-39; 12:37-40; 15:16; 17:24; Rom. 8:29-30; 9:10-18; 11:5; 2 Thess. 2:13; Matt. 11:25-26; Acts 13:48).

(3) Definite
(or limited) Atonement: Christ's penal substitutionary sacrifice is fully efficacious for the particular people whom God freely and sovereignly elected to salvation (
Matt. 1:20-21; 1 Tim. 1:15; Mark 10:45; Gal. 3:13; 1 John 4:10; Acts 20:28; Isa. 53:8; John 10:11).

(4) Irresistible Grace:
the special inward call, whereby the Holy Spirit regenerates and enables individuals to come to Christ, invincibly secures the salvation of the elect (
John 3:5-8; 6:44, 65; 10:3; Ezek. 36:26-27; Acts 5:30-31; 16:14; 2 Cor. 3:6; 4:6; 2 Tim. 1:9; 2:24-25; Eph. 2:8-9; Phil. 1:29).

(5) Perseverance of the Saints:
God preserves to the end all those who are saved and those who persevere to the end are truly saved (
John 6:37-39; 10:27-30; Phil. 1:6; 2:12-13; 1 John 2:19; 5:13; Rom. 8:29-32; Luke 22:31-32; Heb. 3:14, 7:25; Eph. 1:13-14; Matt. 10:22).
